One of my favorite pet products

One of my favorite pet products. Picks up my kitty's hair great! It doesn't tell you this....but to empty it just stick the skinny vacuum wand attachement between the rollers & suck the hair right out. I've had it several years, still works but may be time to get a new one soon.  UPDATE:  just bought a new one the other day & it now has the ability to take the top off to empty the hair!

Second Chance for Rescue Doggies

I've watched this video several times & tear up each time. It's so wonderful to see precious doggies getting a second chance to find a loving home.

Watch this video of Georgia dogs arriving at Northeast Animal Shelter in Mass. Several of these dogs came out of our Habersham Animal Shelter.

Why Choose Custom Photography

Why Choose Custom Photography

Another excellent article from professionalchildphotographer.com  which applies to all Custom Photography specialties... Custom Pet Photography, Custom Senior Photography, Custom Portraiture, etc.

The following is an excerpt for the article:

Custom Photography as something "special"

"Custom photography is more of a luxury than your entry level cookie cutter chain experience.  Custom photography truly is not for everyone, it requires a level of commitment, investment in time  and money, forethought and planning on the part of the subject/client and requires a larger time commitment for the photographer as well."  more

Adoptable pets at Habersham Animal Shelter, Clarkesville, GA

Poor little kitty. She's really a sweet little thing. We think she was in a fire since her little whiskers and some fur is singed.  She'll be beautiful again once her fur grows back.  She just needs a loving home.

What is Custom Pet Photography?

I wanted to write a post on "What is Custom Photography?" but found this article which does a great job explaining it. Even though it's written for Professional child photographers ...it applies to pretty much all areas of professional custom portrait photography.

Cat Expressions

I use to think cats didn't have very expressive faces or much of a sense of humor. That was before I began photographing them. They're quite quick with their expressions...almost like they don't want you to notice. But I caught this one!

Why Custom Pet Photography?

Why Custom Pet Photography?

Our rottweiler, Josee, passed away unexpectedly  about 12 years ago.  She was an amazing dog and we loved her like she was our child.  We have tons of photos of her, but at that time my camera experience was limited to a cheap little film point and shoot.  Sure, some of  the photos are cute, but the quality is lacking  and definitely nothing I want hanging on my wall.   At that time I had never even heard of "Pet" Photographers.  Boy!  what I'd give to have some beautiful, professional portraits of her!

So, why should you consider having your pet's portrait taken? With today's digital cameras it's easy for you  to take lots of photos of your pet.  But have you ever compared your photos to those of a professional pet photographer?  If not, you should!  Professional photographers have years of experience, education, expensive quality equipment and the knowledge of how to use software to make your pet look their best.  Having a pet professionally  photographed isn't for everyone, as it costs a few bucks.  However, if you want a lasting,  beautiful memory of your best furry friend(s), it's something you should definitely consider.

In loving memory of Josee...  me and Josee after her bath.  Wish I had some photos of her that showed how beautiful and special she was.

Kitty's Mystery Bite

Last evening my Kitty came inside acting kind of strange. No interest in her food and seemed very agitated with a noticeable limp. While snuggling with her on the sofa I noticed 2 little dots of blood on her left front leg.  Looked like puncture marks...a bite.  Off to the vet this a.m. A shot of antibiotics and ointment for her bite. Now she's on house confinement until she regains her super sleuth mobility. She's not a happy cat!  As you can see above, she really wants to go out.   We're not sure what bit her but hopefully she'll avoid whatever it was in the future!

Photographing the new arrivals at the Habersham Co. Animal Shelter in Clarkesville, GA

Yesterday was my day to photograph the new arrivals at the Habersham Co. Animal Shelter in Clarkesville, GA. I love to photograph the doggies, just wish it were under different circumstances.  Volunteers, Rhonda and her husband  Johnny,  brought the dogs out and I photographed them.  My hubby, Mark, worked hard at trying to get their attention.  It was a grand effort and hopefully the photos will help place them in loving homes.  In all we had 14 new dogs...this is in just this past week, very sad.  Spay and neuter laws are desperately needed here.  To see some of the dogs available for adoption Click Here

Nikon Coolpix AW100

July 31, 2012  UPDATE:  Took the plunge and used this in the rain and also while snorkeling.   Worked great! Be sure to use the underwater setting when in the water.  Below is a sample image I took in Tahiti.

Suggestion...be sure to have a fully charged battery in the camera and also plenty of room on your memory card before going into the water.  You don't want to chance getting water inside the camera by having to change the battery or card while in the water.  After cleaning & drying the camera I opened the camera and there were just a couple of  itsy bitsy tiny drops of water on the ledge inside which I immediately used a cloth to soak up.  Other than that it was completely dry.

Used the video function quite a bit which worked great.  I think the "movie light" default is on.  I turned it off since it was eating up the battery.  Speaking of which...BUY SEVERAL EXTRA BATTERIES.

Overall I'm very pleased with this little camera.  Takes nice family pics and videos, pretty easy to use and I can use it in all weather conditions.  I recommend it.

JANUARY 22, 2012
A few days ago I purchased the Nikon Coolpix AW100. I'm a Canon dslr person but I decided on this little camera because I wanted something that I could hand to a friend & say "pictures of me & my hubby" please. I'm rarely in our travel photos which is a bummer.  I also wanted a waterproof camera so I could get photos of our waverunner experience on our upcoming trip.  Anyway, the Nikon AW100 just had the features I was looking for so I strayed from my beloved Canon brand.

Features of the Nikon AW100:

    16 MP CMOS Sensor
    5x Zoom Lens - 28-140mm 35mm Equivalent
    3.0" LCD Display
    Waterproof to 33' Deep
Shockproof for Drops Up to 5'
Full HD 1080p Video with Stereo Sound
GPS Data Logging and E-Compass Function
    Built-In Map Displayed on LCD
20 Scene Modes Inc. Underwater Scene
Action Control - Shake to Set a Function

Here's my experience/thoughts so far of this camera:1.  The lens is located top left side which I'm use to it being in the center of the camera so watch where you put your fingers.  Either there's a clear cover over the lens or it's part of the lens, I don't know.  Anyway, there's no "lens cover" in the traditional sense which I don't like. I keep the camera in a protective case to protect the lens.  Wish I could just stick it in my purse without the case.  I emailed Nikon about this & am awaiting a response.

2.  The camera feels well built.  I'm a little nervous about actually putting it in water...there's little holes here & there.  But I'll probably take the plunge.

3.  Read the manual & need to read it again.  The full manual was not provided in written form, there's a cd with it on it.  I just downloaded the manual onto my ipad.

4.  This little bugger is almost as complicated as my dslr with all it's possible settings.  But after I worked with it for a little while it's starting to come together.  If you don't want to bother with all the settings you can just put it on easy auto mode & shoot away and get pretty good results.  Being a control freak, and being use to my dslr's I have a problem with not being able to adjust certain settings...like the flash. There's a button to change flash settings but it only works if you're in a certain shooting mode.  Unless I'm mistaken..it appears that the mode determines what the flash does.  I need to play around with this more.

5.  The gps is pretty neat.  It imprinted my location...correctly on my picture preview.  Gonna love this.

That's it for now.  I'll post more after I get some good experience with it but I think this little guy is going to do a good job.

An enlightening question

“If I knew I could not fail, what would I do?”   “What is stopping us?” Quotes by "Heather" from Richard Radstone's blog.  I find these quite powerful questions.  I'm enjoying reading Richard's blog.  He's on a mission to photograph & interview a complete stranger each day for 365 days.
